DEAR KIM

You are one of the nicest sisters I have ever met
You make my day perfect.
You make me laugh.
We like to play on my hover board
We have the same chocolate colored eyes.
I love you so much.

IF YOU LEAVE

If you leave, I will too.
Running away there, or my feelings.
For I am running away to you.
No! you can’t leave! For I will weep!
I will become weak!
All I have done for you!
My own dreams from my fate have come
To take me to my newborn hell!
To my doom!
Don’t leave me!
Dreams!
I will never forgive you!
As you walk away, a hawk is
Carrying me to my NIGHTMARE.

TO MY FRIEND LEIGH

My friend is the best
Both of us are
Like two birds
In a nest together
Close friends
I would walk across
A frozen lake to save you
My friend.

DEAR LOLLIPOP

You are so hard and sweet
I sucked so long
You lasted till dawn
I woke up the next morning
You were not there
I guess I sucked you for too long
You are a strawberry lemon dream
Now I went to the candy store
I shall buy another lollipop, just like you.

COOL DOG

We are walking down the street
With the beat in our feet
We just feel cool, me and my dog
Walking down the street.
We feel cool, there’s a tingle in our fingers
As we walk down the street.
We stop at the Shack and get a burger and fries.
We eat and still have that
beat is our feet, that tingle in our fingers
We come to a bend, my dog goes WOOO.
I like to go on, but my friend, I’m afraid
My poem has come to an end.

I WISH I COULD GO BACK

I wish I could go back.
I wish I could go back and change what I did
and I think what I did was just wrong.
But if I went back I could mess up my beautiful
friendships I have now and my
life is like an angel sometimes
it’s sad but mostly happy and joyful and
now since I got that out of my heart
I don’t want to go back how I have
everything I need and more.
So I don’t want to go back anymore.

EYES

Light brown chocolate eyes are facing towards the
sky melting every cotton
candy cloud in its path.

Green grass tree eyes every layer different
dark like night light like day power of a
scary snake.

Deep blue eyes 1,000 layers of different
oceans with different colors that make
you cry.

All colored eyes will make you
want to blow up into heaven with other
melting beautiful
eyes.

SHY

Shy are the petals of a flower
Behind a bush
Not a word
Not a sound
To the bush

Shy is the worm

Staying inside
The apple
Inside the apple
No one is there

Shy is the water
Outside the bottle
So the mouth won’t talk
To the water

But shy is not
A book
Opening its pages wide

GINGERBREAD MAN

i make with daddy’s side of the family
we shape the gingerbread man
the dough feels squishy
we put icing all over
the icing feels soft, it tastes yummy too
the gingerbread man gets covered in icing
we put sprinkles all over
small shiny red and green crystals
the gingerbread man gets all covered up
icing and sprinkles all over
i remember the gingerbread man
nice icing
crystal sprinkles
covering up
the gingerbread man
with my daddy’s side of the family

SIX WAYS TO LOOK AT A TREE

Why do they cut me down?
Why do they waste me?

II
I was green and brown
now I am
white

III
I looked amazing in the
sky before they
doodled on me

IV
I felt like a
coral reef
before I
got chopped

I could hear
My leaves
rustling

VI
Why do they cut me down?
Why do they waste me?

I THE FLOWER

In the morning I rise out of
Bed to smell nature
To see fellow flowers
Hear birds chirping
Taste cold water
My bed is made all neat

It is a cool day
Other flowers just sit
And I dance in the wind

HAPPINESS IS THE SUN

Happiness is the sun
you glow up
when you smile it’s bright
when you’re happy you burn sadness
you jump so high
you look like the sun
happiness is a hug
from the joy inside you
happiness is like the color yellow
it’s so bright
just like you
happiness is you
happiness is like candy
it’s so sweet
it makes you happy
happiness is like an idea
it goes straight to your heart
happiness is like sharing
it makes others happy
and it makes you feel proud

Luna Martinez
PS 39, 3rd  Grade

THE INVISIBILITY SPELL

The sound of the black bird trying
to say a word. The smell of a Gold bell ringing
the chime of the day. Stir and stir all
the way.
Make sure it will bubble and
make a rumble.

Bubble and rumble every
day.
Then put in a neigh and
a horse’s hay and you will
be invisible all day.

OCEAN WAVES

Drip Drip Drip
When ocean waves hit you.
You feel the blue warm water touching you.
It hits you down.
You are covered in water.
Then you get back up.
You can feel the waves coming back.
You can see the waves coming back.
You jump into the water and go swimming
in the warm ocean but the waves come
back but before the waves hit you down,
you hit the waves down.
The ocean waves cry.

Lila Sage

SMOOTH PHO

Smooth soft broth flows like the waves
as my chopsticks clap like the crabs, when
the soft noodles travel to my mouth, the warm smooth
texture warms my teeth, the chopsticks
travel the warmth to my hand like
the warm summer sun, I switch the chopsticks
to my other hand so it’s
fair that each gets the warmth!

MY FEELINGS

When I’m angry my body
feels like a sauna. When I’m happy
my house seems filled with
sunshine. When I’m sad my
skin turns blue with sadness.
When I’m confident my body glows
gold. When I’m shy I burn
and hide. When I’m scared I
turn into a statue! When I’m calm
I float in the air where nothing
can get me!

MY FAMILY’S NEW YEAR

Remember red envelopes
when you give them to people
dancing fireworks in the air
hope you like them in
the beautiful night sky swirling with stars
lions dance on the street
boom
boom
boom
there go the fireworks
red yellow blue so many
colors in the sky

THE TREES SPEAK

The tree has a thick dress
of green
The wind rustles through my hair

It is sleeping surrounded by the night
They talk to each other every day by the wind
People come to camp under my shade and
covering
and warmth
I stare at the stars every night
And when the sun comes up I look at its shine
And I feel the warmth

AS A VOLCANO

As a volcano my crater’s brown mouth would
be full of tasty hot orange lava.
Soon I would spit up with drama.
Every day I could hear my belly swishing, but
make sure you don’t go fishing.
In my belly I feel so hot and burning. I can
feel my belly churning.
If you come and visit me I’ll be happy
with destiny.

GLOOMY LITTLE PENCIL

Gloomy little Pencil, I feel so bad for
You,
Waiting constantly in a classroom

When no one’s at
School,
Gloomy little pencil.  I feel

So bad for you, you’re gloomy little
Yellow and black lead self
With nobody around

Just staying in your pitch-dark house
Screaming “Help me!” when you head is getting
Shaven by

A sharpener, people dragging you
Around on a
Paper

Gloomy little pencil, I’m so sorry
About
What people do to you.

Michael Brown
P.S. 56, 4th  Grade

PENCIL

A tiny little pencil
As busy as a bird building
Its nest
It’s a point as sharp as a shark’s tooth
Pink at the bottom
And black at the top
Screaming when
Its head is being smashed against
The white paper
The only thing
It sees is
A blank
White paper as
It is abused

Sayed Daiyan
P.S. 56, 4th  Grade

FIRE ALARM

Pretend you are a dragon
Roaring like a fire drill
Screaming like you are scared
Red when it is off

When on hitting you with
Its bright white making
Your eardrums bleed
Glaring at your making
You feel threatened.

Abrien Martinez
P.S. 56, 4th  Grade

WHERE I’M FROM

I am from people
Playing loud Latin
Music with a
Bit of bad words.

I am from people arguing about
Weird stuff like
One girl let her friend
Borrow her car and
Then crashed it.

I am from where
There are lots of big buildings
And lots of AC’s going out
The window.

I am from lots of cars down a
Big and small hill.
Black, white, and red

Very loud
RUMBLING from
The cars.

Alexis Melendez
P.S. 56, 4th  Grade

WHERE I’M FROM

I am from where you
Hear roosters like
A timer in the morning.

I am from the red and brown roosters
That smell like expired cheese.

I am from where you taste Dominican food
That is better than ice cream.

I am from where the music is louder than
Colorful fireworks.

I am from where you
Go to the Dominican parade with red, blue, and
White dresses.

Evelyn Ovalles
P.S. 56, 4th  Grade

DREAMS

Dreams are always different
Some are about the future
Others you have as you sleep
But dreams can vanish like thin air
With no dreams your world would feel like an empty
Bag of bread.

My dreams I may not accomplish
To be an animator and entertain viewers
I might draw until I have blisters or until I am sore
But, my dreams will stand tall and firm
I enjoy to draw like I enjoy bread.

Another dream I already began is to learn more
About organs and systems
I know the respiratory system and the circulatory system
But, I want to learn more and more
I want to become a doctor though

My third and final dream is to eat more types of bread.
This is one of my dreams because I love bread and
I would like to explore more types of bread.
I also enjoy drawing bread.
I would like to share my dreams I have as I sleep.
But, I don’t think I could remember them all.

WATER

It glitters in the night
It shines under the stars
The color of the water reflects off the bright yellow sun

II
You drink it everyday
You shower with it all the time
You use it after you brush your teeth
It’s in the tears you cry

III
Fish swim in it
Octopus camouflage in it
Dolphins jump and frolic in it

IV
It doesn’t have a smell it has a bit of a taste
Most people think it’s blue some think it’s white
The ocean is a mysterious place
Would you like a chance to explore it?

You need water to live
Fish do too
What do you think the world would be without water?

VI
The ocean can be different types of blue

If you look into it you see yourself
It’s like a mirror but clearer and wider
You can see yourself and who you are
What do you think the ocean sees in you?

Penda Niang
PS 129, 4th  Grade

LOCKED INSIDE

Anger is an enclosed
box you shut up inside
you really don’t want to
open up that box it is
all beat up and bruised
like the rain it won’t
stop until you see light
once you use your anger
you will always regret it
you fix the mess you made and
NEVER open it
it will be hard just try
you’re like a dinosaur that raged on
and on until it got wiped out
the box is red and
purple it has a lock
that only you can open
it’s a frightening creature

PS 129, 4th  Grade

PUZZLED

Once there was a puzzle piece
that never felt like it belonged
as he watched others meet their
match while he was left alone.

Left to wonder to himself “will I ever

meet my match?”

he started to lose hope.
As he started to accept his fate

something happened.

He felt a smooth hand touch his
printed on a picture that sat on top of

  his cardboard skin

the hand lifted him in the air
then slapped him down where he now

  calls home.

He met his match and they got along swell.
The picture was finally clear.

THE MUSTARD SEED

The small mustard seed was something
no one cared for. Everyone was
confident that it would never produce
anything for its tiny size. They
thought it was only a grain of
sand.

The small mustard seed was
humiliated on how small it was.
But one person knew how big it was inside.
The small mustard seed was thrilled
to know of someone that would care for it.

And after 2 days of growing it was
one of the largest plants around.
The massive mustard plant was
gratified at what it had done.
And everyone was awestruck to see
the amazing plant that only used to be
The Small Mustard Seed.

DISHEARTENED IS A DARK ROOM

The blank room with a small lit candle.

The sound of your heartbeat echos

in your head, like a football

stadium when you scream.

Your stomach feels like a rolling

ball being rolled.

The raven that flew off the

leafless tree in the woods that

perched near you as if it’s moving

snaking in fear, like you’re an

earthquake, like you’re dismayed from

yourself.

The door that opened without wind.

The feeling when you hear

someone call your name and

you’re home alone.

 Disheartened you are not

 forever.

 The bright light makes you

 gleeful inside.

The dark orange sunset
Almost night time

As serene as a well fed baby sipping chamomile tea
The sun has gone down
And you put on your pajamas

your sagging eyes
Oh what a calm evening

PHOENIXES

Phoenixes spark in the brightest of light
Burning trees in the forest of midnight
Exploding cities, towns, and states
Only to find its beautiful phoenix mate
But only to find a few mermaids
He thinks, he asks, he makes them his maids
He asks to have some advice
But only finds puny mice
Where will he find his beautiful mate
He needs to have a date!
He goes to the volcano home
That is in faraway Rome
When he is home at that Rome
There she is his beautiful mate!

MOONLIGHT FLOWERS

Moonlight flowers have wonderful bright light
but only in the night.

Moonlight flowers are near rivers
but sometimes they make you shiver.

Moonlight flowers are dark at day

Moonlight may burn your eyes

for if you touch their eyes.

Moonlight flowers are full for wonderful
thoughts that make dreams complete.

THE WIND

Moving everywhere so fast. I might
be in Paris before summer ends. When I move I
see new things like pretty artwork and people. I heard
of hot dogs that people eat. Whoosh and

puff. Making soft noises everywhere. Loud or low.
It’s still noises right. I won’t smell like
stinky cheese or rotten eggs. Right?

Open an umbrella indoors and spilling
Salt.
I will grant your wish, forever to have
Bad luck. I will throw in many things
The tail of a cat and dog
A big diamond rock
A drop of maple syrup
A leaf from Canada

And see the blood.
Never let the wind in or my
Spell will not work.

Here comes the dark storm of bullies.
It will devour you with lots of pain.
They will take all your stuff when they’re here.
Everyone needs to be aware,
bullies just aren’t fair.
Send something to tell everyone,
because everyone wants to care.
Send someone to warn us,
that the bullies are here.

And you don’t want to go to school,
Grab a bee’s sting,

Find a blue bottle of sake.
Pour it in the cauldron,
Finish the clone spell.

CLOCK

Hello, I am a clock
I wake up people with my loud noise
I tell humans what time it is
I make a lot of noise in the morning
They touch my head when they do not want
To hear my loud noise
Humans press start at nighttime
To hear me in the morning
All I like to do is make as much noise
As I want
If you put me in the water
I am dead technology

Fighting the darkness
Reaching for accomplishment
The sky is a brick

Crush its hope

the burning sun.
I float high above the sky,
over giant buildings.
Sometimes I get to drop rain on people and then they run inside.
They do not bother me
when I float high in the sky.

THE SUN

The sun is so hot.
It’s like the light bulb for the morning.
When I look at the sun, it shines back to me. It is so bright.
At night, the sun runs away from me.

I SEE

In my world
clouds are blue
and the sky is white. But then I wonder,
is this real life?

BANGLADESH

I remember the chirping birds of Bangladesh
The smell of sweet dough mixed with sugar
The weather is hot
and the space is open
I ran around,
Swinging my arms up and down,
and fell into. pool.
I laughed,
I swam around
trying to get out,
I got out
and ran all the way home.

NOT MY HERO

Columbus is not my hero.
He killed Indians.
He took other people’s land.
Columbus Day is not my holiday.
We should celebrate Mexican Day and
American Independence Day
Because Columbus is selfish,
telling lies wherever he goes.

I WISH FOR A SNOW FALL

If snow does not fall the winter is bare.
Is a tree with no leaves .
An ocean with no fish.
A forest with no trees.
A gray sky.

But a winter with snow is full.
Is a tree full of leaves.
An ocean packed with wildlife.
A forest full of trees.
A bright blue sky.

DEAR CLASSROOM RUG

Dear classroom rug, you are very
colorful. Dear classroom rug, you could
either be ten thousand years old,
or you might have just been
born. Dear classroom rug, you are
so soft and fuzzy. Dear classroom
rug, you protect us from your
enemy, which is also ours, the germs
on the floor, and you say “Hands off
nasty germs.” Dear classroom rug, you
make the days pass by easier, you are
the classroom hero! Dear classroom rug,
Dear classroom rug, Dear classroom rug.

DREAMS

Dreams are like a soft blanket.
Ride them to happiness. To a place where
nothing and nobody can hurt you.

Dreams are like being underwater.
Soothing blissful relief from the harsh
world that forever lashes its fiery tongue.
Reality. Dreams battle nightmares.
The forever battle. Dreams are a bright
sunny path through the shadowy forest.
Nightmares. The rabid animal that
stops you from achieving your goals.
Sword meets sword, but remember, no
matter what, dreams will guide you.
They are the spiritual Google maps of fantasy.
Some may say dreams are phony
things that only lead your heart astray.
But dreams––all of them, if you have the courage
to believe––are 100% real. Don’t let
anything stop your dreams. They are a cool
breeze on a warm day. Bringing happiness,
hope, and relief. That breeze, the white
fluffy clouds, they bring the promise of
rain, a good nice cool shower.
Dreams are the path to Hope.

THE CLASSROOM CLOCK

The clock seemed quite impatient today
ticking and tocking so furiously as if he was
late, making us run from one place to another!
He was quite loud too, “You’re late… YOU’RE LATE!”
he seemed to yell. Then he would move his
arm to the side showing us we were late for
lunch. Some days he would decide to dance with
time making us slooow dooown and go fast! Other
days he would decide to play a prank on us and
make us late, really late!! But one thing is for sure:
the clock always makes us laugh!

THE DEEP BLUE VOID

I want to swim in a sea of jewels.
I want to have no limit to air.
I want to swim with animals that only
exist in the void called a mind.

I want to swim with no limit
like a majestic squid. Just glide
through the water like a hawk
gliding in the air.

I want to swim in the deep
blue liquid sea. To be trapped
in a subtle blue liquid void.
Called the sea.

THINGS TO DO IF YOU ARE A BACKPACK

Hang around
open wide and gobble possessions
hide in the dark
then get a blast of light in your face
try to taste a human’s hand
get cramped with your friends in the closet
latch keychains on your zippers
hold heavy things
take the hit when you crash on the table
your open zipper is like a mouth eating
something

WOLVES

A wolf’s fur
is the color of

a rain cloud.
There are
20
eyes red like
a ruby.

They howl
at the
full
moon
like someone
is there.

The Alpha is the
brain and
the park
is the body
together
they are an organism.

THINGS TO DO IF YOU ARE RAIN

Fall down on coats
And wet people’s faces.
Get people wetter than the
Ocean. Bring plants and flowers
To life with a drop of warmish water.
Spray on faces with the cool nice breeze.
Drip off palms and skydive down from the sky.
Make puddles and puddles of rippling warm water.
Dance in the sky while you fall fall down down down!

RAIN

Rain
Creates music along shingles

Dances across windows
Races down leaves
Rolls on sidewalks
Showers down from dark clouds
Trickles down buildings
Hugs the fresh, green grass
Rides on slick hoods and umbrellas
Falls with full aggression onto the ground
And shatters into a million invisible pieces
Rain

TIME

Time can be wasted like littered plastic bags.
Time can be useful looking at a clock as if in a trance.
You need a new clock.
The smell of the air lingers around you.
It is a flower that carries the smell of lavender.
Clocks dazzle with the sunlight reflecting upon it.
Time should be used gracefully in the hands of someone responsible.
Owls cover the sky and they are dark clouds.
You see clocks begging to be taken home.
The room was fire.
You felt the ticking clock shifting between your hands every second.

WIND

The wind is blowing quickly.
Look around and you can see the green leaves fly and driving cars without the
engine on.  It is very cold you can hear noise no matter where you go.
It is the wind that is moving the whole world.

A DREAM

A dream is like a spark of light, floating atop your head.
A dream, has a voice of wisdom, like a bird with golden wings or the sun,
Shimmering on your skin. A dream is like a planet’s course that never ends.
A destiny, a sight, a voice. A dream.

IF I WASN'T ME THEN WHO WOULD I BE?

THE MOON AND THE WIND

When the wind flies

above me and the moon
is shining in the bright night sky.

PINK
Pink feels like a rose quartz
In the mines
You hear a sound in your village
A small pink cat tells you a sweet surprise
You greet her to come to your home,
But she simply says no.
On Easter if you wear light pink
But the kitten gives you a wink.

WHO I AM
Who am I,
I am tall as a tree
What am I?
The sky.
Where am I?

In the clouds.
When am I mad?
I am the thunder
To a lightning bolt.

MY EMOTIONS

I am a red hot revengeful
demon when someone angers me.
I am a cheerful store when I play.
I am a sad puddle when I do my homework
But when I'm with my friends I'm a really happy guy
I am tired when it’s time for bed
So leave me alone And let me rest!!!

WHAT THEY SEE
What they see is me.
Who is me?
Me is creativity
That's me.
What am I?
I am somebody who reaches for the sky. That I.
What is myself?
Myself is somebody who reads
Items off a bookshelf.
That's myself.
What's inside?
Inside our memories that collide.
This is what they see.

DELIGHTED

Desperately happy
Excited with love
Like a shooting star
I know how it feels.  Everyone does.
Feeling good when you
Help someone at a place you love,
Then feeling a pang, an urge to help someone
Else, that's when you're feeling
Delighted.
